Events, one after another! If the previous semester was about trips abroad , this one is about events at home! Over the next few months we will be organizing a multitude of events, of all sorts and magnitudes. Workshop on cultural informatics Tentative date: Thursday, April the 6th By now our semesterly workshops are a kind of a tradition. After two events focusing on games (one on AI for games and one on games for education ), our next event will focus on cultural informatics. We will again partner with the Human-Computer Interaction and Virtual Reality Lab, but will also be joined by the Laboratory of Archaeometry of the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Arkadia of the Ministry of Culture. University of the Peloponnese and CERN Tentative date: Wednesday , May the 31st Not everyone is aware of the extent of the cooperation between the University of the Peloponnese and CERN. And (what an honor!) the university has asked our group to help change that. With the help of our exceptional volunteers , we are in the process of gathering information. The effort will culminate in a workshop in which the numerous stories connecting the two institutions will be highlighted. 3rd ATTRACT TWD Symposium in Detection and Imaging Tentative dates: Wednesday/Thursday, May the 31st – June 1st Some of Europe’s scientific leaders – including the European Southern Observatory, the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, the European Industrial Research Management Association and CERN– are joining forces together with other organizations to help create new scientific and commercial products, companies and jobs. In this context, a symposium will be held to inspire new ideas and to help efforts for finding resources to fund new breakthrough ideas in detection and imaging. And, once more, our group has been asked to lead the local organization efforts. Open day, vol 5 Tentative date: Early part of the semester By now, students that are approaching the completion of their first degree have come to expect our semesterly open day, to help them select a topic for their thesis. We will once again do our best to prepare a bouquet with the widest possible range of topics, for all styles and tastes. Theses presentations Tentative dates: Thursday, February the 9th and again at the end of the semester A thesis is the culmination of a four (or more) year long effort toward the degree. The finest hour, by far, is the presentation of that work to an open audience that includes not only professors but also family and friends. These events are amongst the most cherished moments for our group, as it is when we celebrate the work of our amazing students. Of course we hope you will find our events interesting and honor us by attending them. But for those of us involved in their preparation, the actual event day is only a fraction of the overall experience.
